You can take a break from the monotony of daily life and busy schedules by visiting Narayanganj, which is not far from Dhaka. The entire district is filled with a unique blend of heritage, culture, and natural beauty. Let’s find out the most beautiful places to visit in Narayanganj.

1. Panam City
When you think about Panam City, you will feel like you have returned to a distant past when there were kings, queens, ministers, and a vast empire ruled by the king. Panam, located in Sonargaon, Narayanganj district, was one of the oldest cities in Bengal. The city spans an area of 20 square kilometres. There are 52 colonial-era structures on both sides of Panam City. Some of the buildings have broken windows, some have bricks and plaster falling off, while others stand almost in ruins remaining part of history.
Although dilapidated, the buildings show signs of taste and elegance. Here, one can see the 400-year-old mint house and the indigo factory built by the East India Company. Panam City is closed on Sunday and for half a day on Monday. It remains open on other days of the week as well as on public holidays. The price of an entry ticket costing is Tk 20.
How to get to Panam City?
You can go directly to Panam Nagar (Panam city) from Dhaka by private car or microbus. If you prefer to take a bus, you need to get off at Sonargaon Mogorapara intersection on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway after taking a bus from Gulistan.
The fare for AC buses from Gulistan is Tk 60-70 while the fare for non-AC Doel and Swadesh buses is Tk 40-50. From Mogorapara, you can take an auto-rickshaw to Panam Nagar for Tk10-20 per person.
Where to stay there?
Due to the proximity to Dhaka, you can go during the day and return on the same day. So, you don’t have to think about staying there. However, if you still want to spend the night in Narayanganj, you will need to come to Narayanganj Sadar and book a hotel. You will find some hotels to stay at around Narayanganj.
2. Sonargaon Folk Art Museum
Sonargaon Folk Art Museum is located about 26 kilometres east of the capital Dhaka and one of the beautiful places to visit in Narayanganj. To preserve the culture and folk art of the timeless rural Bengal, on March 12, 1975, the artist Zainul Abedin established the Bangladesh Folk and Craft Foundation in an old house in Panam City, Sonargaon.
The Bangladesh Folk and Craft Foundation is known as the Sonargaon Museum. It features the Sardar House, the historical struggle sculpture of Zainul Abedin, a bust of Bangabandhu’s historic speech, a sculpture of Zainul Abedin, the Zainul Abedin Memorial Museum, a folk stage, and a craft village. Additionally, various galleries in the museum display different crafts in wood, traditional paintings, masks, primitive life-based artefacts, folk musical instruments, terracotta plaques, folk jewellery, and ancient artefacts.
The Sonargaon Folk Art Museum is closed on Thursdays. A ticket costing Tk50 must be purchased to enter the museum. However, the ticket price for entering the main building of Sonargaon is Tk 100.
The distance from Panam Nagar to Sonargaon is not very far. It is very easy to come here by auto-rickshaw for a fare of Tk 10-20 per person.
3. Bengal’s Taj Mahal
If anyone desires to see Delhi’s Taj Mahal and it is not possible, his or her lacking will be filled up to see Bengal’s Taj Mahal.
Bengal’s Taj Mahal, or the second Taj Mahal, has been constructed in Perab village of Sonargaon upazila as a replica of Agra’s Taj Mahal. Businessperson and filmmaker Ahsan Ullah Moni built it.
The main building of the Taj Mahal has been constructed with expensive transparent stones. Inside the Taj Mahal, the graves of Ahsan Ullah Moni and his wife Rajiya have been preserved.
Just like the Taj Mahal in Agra, there is a fountain, a flower garden, and seating for visitors in front of the building, and four large minarets have been constructed at the four corners of the main building.
The Banglar Taj Mahal is open to visitors every day from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. An entry fee of Tk150 is required to enter. An entry fee of Tk150 is required for entry.
4. Pyramids
You may be able to see the Taj Mahal when you go to Agra. But how many people have the fortune to see the pyramids in faraway Egypt?
However, a replica of the Egyptian pyramids has been constructed near the Taj Mahal in Narayanganj. Visitors there will get a glimpse of the atmosphere of two famous places in the world.
However, the pyramid here features sculptures commemorating the Liberation War, sculptures of Indira Gandhi and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a cinema hall with 250 seats, and a seminar room.
Additionally, to give a taste of the original pyramid, replicas of mummies, ornaments of kings and queens, clothing, and furniture are kept inside.
The Banglar Taj Mahal is open to visitors every day from 10:00am to 6:00pm. An entry fee of Tk150 is required to enter. The entry fee for both the Taj Mahal and the Pyramid must be paid together. There is no separate entry arrangement.
How to go pyramid?
To visit the Taj Mahal or the pyramid, one must first take a bus towards Comilla or Sonargaon via the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and get off at Madanpur bus stand. From there, it is easy to go to see the Taj Mahal and the Pyramid by CNG or auto-rickshaw.
Additionally, one can also reach the Taj Mahal via auto-rickshaw or CNG by going through the 300-foot road in Kuril.
5. Sonakanda Fort
The Sonakanda Fort built during the Mughal period is located on the east bank of the river Shitalakkhya in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj. It is one of the beautiful places to visit in Narayanganj.
It is believed that this water fort was built by Mir Jumla, the then Subahdar of Bengal around 1650.
Three water forts were built in the seventeenth century to protect Dhaka city from external enemies. Sonakanda Fort is one of them. The Sonakanda fort is quadrangular surrounded by strong high walls.
Its entrance is placed in a rectangular arcade structure. The two important parts of the fort are the huge protection wall and the other is the high platform protecting it from pirate attacks on the west side. There are numerous small holes in the wall for throwing shells.
6. Murapara zamindar Bari
Murapara zamindar house located on Narsingdi Road, 25 kilometers away from Dhaka. It is under Rupganj police station of Narayanganj.
In 1889, zamindar Ramratan Banerjee started the construction of the zamindar house on 40 hectares of land. There are more than 100 rooms in this house. Almost every room can be found in perfect construction and craftsmanship.
This zamindar house is divided into various parts, including Kachari house, meeting room, guest house, dance hall, puja mandap, and storehouse. At present, the main building of the Zamindar house is being used as Murapara Degree College building. Another administrative building was built next to it in 1995.
7. Mayadwip
Mayadwip has woken up as a piece of green on the Meghna River.
This triangular char is located in Bardi union of Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district.
Although somewhat small in size, the sound of the river in the open wilderness and the cool breeze that cools the mind will fill the mind with genuine joy.
If you want to go here, you have to take auto-rickshaw from Mograpara intersection to Bardi Baidyerbazar as before. Then from there to the Meghna River Ghat.
From the ghat, you can go to Mayadwip by renting a boat or trawler on a contract for 200-300 rupees per hour or 1200-1500 rupees. It can also be reached by car. It may take 20-25 minutes to reach Mayadwip.
8. Zinda Park
Zinda Park near Purbachal can be an easy destination to spend time away from the hustle and bustle of people. Located in the Daudpur union of Rupganj, this park is spread over an area of about 150 acres.
There are more than 10,000 trees of 250 species and 5 reservoirs. Apart from this, there is a market, a library of beautiful architecture, a canteen and a mini zoo full of different species of animals inside the park.
If you want to have a picnic or day out with family or friends, Zinda Park may be the first choice.
You can go to Zinda Park though Kuril Bishwa Road Purbachal Highway (300 feet road) using BRTC bus. It is open from 9:00am every day.
Tickets are priced at Tk 150 for adults and Tk 50 for children. If you want to take food inside, the travel cost can increase.
