British actor and comedian Tony Slattery, who appeared on the Channel 4 comedy improvisation show Whose Line Is It Anyway, died at the age of 65.
He breathed his last after suffering a heart attack, announced his partner Mark Michael Hutchinson announced.
Mark Michael with great sadness announced actor and comedian Tony Slattery, aged 65, has died on Tuesday morning, after a heart attack on Sunday evening.”
Born on November 9, 1959, the British actor and comedian became a frequent panellist on shows such as Have I Got News For You and Radio 4’s Just a Minute.
He also worked as an actor and appeared in The Crying Game films, Peter’s Friends and Bruce Robinson’s How to Get Ahead in Advertising.
His friend Sir Stephen described him on Instagram as the gentlest, sweetest soul” and “a screamingly funny deeply talented wit and clown.
As Gordon in Tim Firth’s play Neville’s Island, the comedian earned an Olivier Award nomination for best comedy performance for his role.
Slattery gained a scholarship to study medieval and modern languages at Cambridge University.
The actor was also a contemporary of Dame Emma Thompson and Hugh Laurie at Cambridge.
The group won the inaugural Perrier Comedy Award in 1981 at the Edinburgh Festival for their production of The Cellar Tapes.
Slattery was named Footlights’ president following in the footsteps of Eric Idle, Clive Anderson and Peter Cook.
He made several TV appearances, including a stint hosting a children’s programme in TX.
He landed a starring role in the West End musical Me and My Girl in 1986.
