Prosecutors plan to retry Karen Read after a mistrial was declared in the 2022 murder case of John O’Keefe.

Read is accused of killing her Boston police officer boyfriend by ramming into him with her SUV and leaving him in a snowstorm.

Read, a former adjunct professor at Bentley College, was charged with second-degree murder and other charges in the death of Officer John O’Keefe.

On Monday, a Boston court declared a mistrial after jurors deadlocked in the case.

Prosecutors, in a statement, said they intended to retry the case, which garnered outsized attention due to some true crime fanatics, conspiracy theorists, and Read’s supporters.

O’Keefe, a 16-year member of the Boston police, was found outside the house of another Boston police officer in Canton in January 2022.

An autopsy confirmed that O’Keefe died of hypothermia and blunt force trauma.

Prosecutors said Read and O’Keefe had been drinking heavily prior to her dropping him off at a party in front of the house of one Brian Albert, a fellow police officer.

The prosecution argued that Read hit him with her SUV before driving away.

The defense, meanwhile, portrayed Read as the victim, saying O’Keefe had been killed inside Albert’s home and then left outside the house.

The defense presented to the court that the investigation focused on Read as she was a convenient “outsider”, who saved the prosecution from having to consider other suspects, including Albert and other law enforcement members present at the party.
