Not really. The famous animated series that has predicted the future by accident numerous times aired its “final episode” on Sunday night.

However, it was really a meta-way to start off the Season 36 premiere.

“The Simpsons” remains the longest-running animated TV show in the US, sitcom, and scripted primetime television series. The first episode of Simpsons aired on January 14, 1990.

Though the series may not be as popular as it was back then in the 90s, the TV show is still quite well-known for its uncanny way of predicting the future, at least according to the fans.

The episode was titled as “Bart’s Birthday” and accorded as a “Fox special presentation”. It began with animated celebrities rolling into the “Dolby-Mucinex Theater” for the occasion, hosted by none other than Conan O’Brien.

“It’s such an honour to be with y’all for the series finale of ‘The Simpsons,'” O’Brien tells the crowd, which has animated versions of stars sprinkled all over, who appeared on the series on different occasions.

“Well, it is true. Fox decided to end the Simpsons.”

Animated Conan goes on with the faux obituary for the legendary series.

O’Brien’s character said that not many know this but Fox has apparently been trying to kill the show for years.

When the pilot aired in 1989, the viewers allegedly agreed that it was not as funny as it used to be.

Fox executives, animated Conan said, unaccustomed to criticism of any kind, immediately caved to public pressure and decided to kill ‘The Simpsons’ in 1990.

Simpson version of O’Brien later airs clips from what he claimed were unaired series finale attempts before handing out the actual “final” episode, which really wasn’t as fans get to squeeze a little more of their favourite show.
