Former NFL No. 1 overall draft pick and LSU standout quarterback JaMarcus Russell earned more than $36.4 million in salary and bonuses during his NFL career.

He was a top pick by Oakland in the 2007 NFL Draft. In three seasons between 2007 to 2009 with the Raiders, Russell recorded 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.

He is widely regarded as the NFL’s biggest draft bust.

Russell was a star quarterback at Williamson and signed to play at Louisiana State University in 2003. He threw for 6,625 yards and 52 touchdowns in three years before becoming a professional.

The NFL star is facing a lawsuit over a $74,000 cheque written as a donation for the football program at his alma mater, Williamson High School.

Russell joined the Williamson football staff in 2018 as a volunteer assistant coach, but was removed in the middle of last season.

Officials for the school system could not confirm whether the lawsuit played any role in the decision.

As per court documents, Russell deposited a $74,000 cheque at Navigator Credit Union and later cashed it in July 2022.

Chris Knowles, who wrote the cheque, told Nexstar’s WKRG Sports Director Simone Eli the money came as a donation to the Williamson football program on behalf of his business, a local building company, Selwonk Enterprises.

Sources close to the Williamson program, with knowledge about the situation, said the Lions never saw any of the money.
