No, Susan Wojcicki, former YouTube Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and a tech pioneer who was one of Google’s earliest employees, has died at 56.
Wojcicki, who had been suffering from lung cancer for two years, breathed her last on Saturday, her husband Dennis Troper said in a heartfelt Facebook post.
She was a pivotal figure in the tech industry and was one of Google’s earliest employees.
Dennis Troper wrote in a Facebook post that with profound sadness he shares the news of Susan Wojcicki’s passing. His beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left them today [Saturday] after battling two years with non-small cell lung cancer.
He said Wojcicki was his best friend and partner in life. She was also a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many.
Sundar Pichai, chief executive officer (CEO) of Alphabet Inc, said in a blog post that Susan Wojcicki dealt with great personal difficulties over the last two years.
She also devoted herself to making the world better through her philanthropy. She was engaged in supporting research for the disease that ultimately took her life.
Susan, one of the most prominent women in technology, joined Google in 1999 to become one of the first few employees of the web search leader.
In 2006, Google however bought YouTube spending $1.65 billion.
Wojcicki was senior vice president for ad products at Google before she became CEO of YouTube in 2014.
Susan resigned from her role at YouTube in 2023 to focus on family, health, and personal projects.
Neal Mohan, a senior advertising and product executive who joined Google in 2008, replaced Susan.
At that time, Susan planned to take on an advisory role at Google’s parent company Alphabet.
