TikTok, a social media app allowing users to create, share, and discover short-form videos, has restored service for US users after President-elect Donald Trump assured the company’s service providers.
The Chinese short-form video hosting service owned by Chinese internet company ByteDance has confirmed it by stating on Sunday that TikTok was coming back online in the US following the assurances by Donald Trump.
TikTok said its video platform was coming back online in the US after blocking it, according to the statement.
TikTok said in a post on X that they thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to the app service providers.
The providers will face no penalties for providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.
The company said they will work with Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the US as it is a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship.
Trump posted to Truth Social calling for the app to remain available just hours before the move from TikTok.
Trump indicated in his post that he wanted it to be available to broadcast his inauguration on Monday.
