The Rebecca Grossman trial concluded with her being sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for murdering two children in a hit-and-run collision in a crosswalk in 2020.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Joseph A. Brandolino handed down the verdict after examining witnesses and evidence, reported the New York Times and CSBnews.

A Los Angeles jury convicted sixty-year-old Grossman, a California philanthropist and co-founder of the Grossman Burn Foundation, in February of two counts of murder.

According to prosecutors, the accident occurred while Grossman was driving a Mercedes sport utility vehicle at over 80 miles an hour.

The incident resulted in the deaths of Mark Iskander, 11, and his brother Jacob, 8, as they were struck while walking with their family in a Westlake Village crosswalk.

The prosecution sought Grossman’s 34-year to life prison term, but Judge Brandolino rejected this request, stating such a lengthy term was “just not warranted here.”

During the hearing, Grossman expressed her remorse to the family, insisting she never saw the boys in the street the night of the crash.

The memorandum revealed that Grossman had consumed alcohol and taken Valium before driving, with her blood alcohol content measured at .075 percent and .076 percent.

Grossman’s defence attorneys, James Spertus and Samuel Josephs, acknowledged her responsibility for causing the accident but argued that the offence did not warrant a life sentence.
