US President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr Jill Biden shared a New Year’s Eve message late Sunday with Ryan Seacrest on ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’.
The president seeks reelection in 2024.
Biden, on his hopes for 2024, said may the New Year bring health, happiness, and safety to all.
“We are in a better position than any country in the world to lead the world,” he said.
“And we’re coming back, and it’s about time,” Biden said.
In response to a question later on about his most memorable moments from 2023, Biden stated that people are able to make a living now, and they’ve created a lot of jobs for over 14 million people.
Biden said he just feels good, the American people got up. They have been through a difficult period due to the pandemic, but now we’re coming back, they’re back.
The prerecorded interview was aired during ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest,” shortly before the East Coast was scheduled to ring in 2024.
Seacrest has interviewed Joe Biden and Jill Biden for the past four years for the New Year’s special.
First Lady Jill Biden shared a similarly upbeat message in the interview.
“I think it’s what I would always tell my students — be positive, be optimistic and be kind to one another,” she told Seacrest in the interview aired on Sunday.
According to the White House, the first couple spoke from St Croix in the Virgin Islands, where the Biden family is celebrating New Year 2024. However, the interview was recorded on Saturday.
The couple reached the Caribbean island last Wednesday. Their visit came, a day after the president returned to Washington after celebrating Christmas with family at Camp David.
