Travis Hunter wins coveted college football award

American football cornerback and Colorado Buffaloes star Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night.

The ceremony has been attended by Travis Hunter, Miami quarterback Cam Ward, Ashton Jeanty and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel.

Hunter and Jeanty were the weighty favourites to gain the award. This week, four Heisman Trophy finalists were announced.

Hunter won the Walter Camp Award, the Biletnikoff Award, and the Bednarik Award and several other awards.

He achieved the win AP College Football Player of the Year.

Jeanty has also been recognized with the Maxwell Award, the Doak Walker Award and other notable awards.

Ward, who presented to the top quarterback in the country, won the Davey O’Brien Award.

Despite not receiving any major awards this week, Gabriel helped lead the Ducks to the top seed in the College Football Playoff.

The Colorado star has hinted at playing in the Alamo Bowl during Heisman Trophy speech.

Speaking at an event, Hunter said as they still had one last game together as teammates at Colorado, he did not want to get emotional about Shedeur Sanders.

Hunter developed just the second defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy along with Charles Woodson in 1997.

To win the trophy, he also became the first Colorado football since Rashaan Salaam in 1994.
