What did Shannon Doherty pass away from?

After battling breast cancer for years,  Shannen Doherty, the “Beverly Hills, 90210” star whose life and career were roiled by illness and tabloid stories, on Saturday. She was 53.

“The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace,” her publicist Leslie Sloane said in a statement on Sunday.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Doherty moved to Los Angeles with her family at the age of 7 and became an actor within a few years.

In an interview with the Associated Press in 1994, she said it was entirely her decision and her parents never pressured her into anything, but rather supported her in her choice of career.

As a child actor, she performed in TV series such as “Little House on the Prairie,” where she played Jenny Wilder.

As a teenager, she took a detour to the silver screen in “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” (1985) and “Heathers.”

Her breakout role came in 1990 as Brenda Walsh in producer Aaron Spelling’s teen melodrama set in posh Beverly Hills.

However, the doe-eyed, dark-haired actor’s fame came with media scrutiny and accounts of outbursts, drinking and impulsiveness — the latter mainly after a short marriage to actor George Hamilton’s son, Ashley.

Doherty got married for the second time in 2002 to Rick Salomon, which was annulled within a year. She married photographer Kurt Iswarienko in 2011 and filed for divorce in April 2023.

Doherty quit “Beverly Hills, 90210” in 1994 at the end of the fourth season. The show aired until 2000. She was allegedly removed by Spelling due to conflicts with co-stars and turning up late at the sets.
