By TOI Desk Report January 6, 2025 Update on : January 6, 2025
Inauguration Day takes place on January 20 every four years when any elected president takes office and adopts to the White House. If January 20 falls on a Sunday (USA weekend), Inauguration Day occurs on January 21. The inauguration is held outside the Capitol in Washington, DC.
This year [2025], the inaugural ceremony will take place on Monday [January 20] as President-elect Donald Trump is set to return to the White House on the day.
Trump will take office on the day [January 20], as he won the 2024 presidential election against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in November last year.
Earlier, Trump was defeated by current US President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. Donald Trump is the second president to win two non-consecutive terms in US history while Grover Cleveland was the first.
How will you get tickets to Trump’s inauguration?
According to USA.gov, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies releases a select number of tickets which are free and available to members of Congress. The tickets are limited and only available upon request to watch in person on the grounds of the US Capitol as the president and vice president are sworn in on January 20, 2025.
