With heavy hearts, former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner and his wife Jessica are saddened to announce the passing of their youngest son Miller Gardner.
The couple, who wed in 2007, are also parents to another son Hunter Gardner
The 14-year-old son fell ill when he and other family members were on vacation. Miller later died, the family announced on Sunday (March 23) in a statement on X.
The couple however did not detail where they were on vacation during the incident. Besides, the cause of death of their son remained unknown.
Brett and Jessica Gardner said in a statement released by the Yankees that their son passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday (March 21).
Miller, a beloved son and brother, loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and friends. The boy lived life to the fullest every single day.
The Yankees said after learning of Miller Gardner’s death, the organisation is “filled with grief.
Miller was seen taking a pass and running it in for a touchdown in a highlight generated last fall while playing football for a South Carolina school wearing No. 11.
His father wore the same number when he played for the Yankees.
Gardner, who was a highly respected teammate, was close to Aaron Judge among others.
Brett Gardner, an outfielder, played 14 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the Yankees and was a member of the 2009 championship team. His playing career ended after the 2021 season, although he is yet to announce his retirement officially.
