JD Davis’ full name is Jonathan Gregory Davis Jr, but he has gone by JD ever since elementary school.

The Yankees on Sunday acquired JD Davis and cash considerations from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for infielder Jordan Groshans.

Davis, 31, an experienced corner infielder, was batting .236 (29-for-123) with four home runs and five RBIs in 39 games for Oakland this season, appearing defensively at first base and third base. The A’s had designated Davis for assignment on June 18.

Right after his junior season in college, Davis was first drafted by the Houston Astros, in the third round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft.

Recently, Davis signed a one-year contract for, $2.5 million with the Oakland Athletics, with another $1 million in incentives.

The Yankees have been seeking help for their infield corners.

The team’s first baseman Anthony Rizzo fractured his right arm in Boston on Sunday, prompting New York to call up rookie catcher/first baseman Ben Rice, the club’s No. 12 prospect as per MLB Pipeline.

Entering Sunday’s action, the 25-year-old Rice had three hits in 14 at-bats (.214).

The Yanks have also been platooning Oswaldo Cabrera and DJ LeMahieu at the third base.

Davis would possibly be with the Yankees for its Subway Series opener on Tuesday, spelling a return to Citi Field for him, who earlier played for the Mets from 2019 to 2022.

Davis, a .259 career hitter over parts of eight big league seasons, has been cut loose twice already this season.

He earlier signed a Major League contract with the Giants in February before being released on March 11, and later signed with Oakland after five days.
