American football wide receiver Kyren Lacy, who was facing criminal charges stemming from a fatal car accident in December, was found dead in Houston Saturday night.

The LSU official confirmed the death, but they have yet to confirm the cause behind the death.

Harrison County sheriff in a report said the LSU receiver died in an apparent suicide in his car. The accident took place while being pursued by authorities in Houston.

Citing an unnamed family member, WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge said Lacy, who hailed from Thibodaux, Louisiana, died in the Houston area.

Lacy led LSU in touchdowns received with nine last season.

He had declared for this month’s NFL draft. But, Lacy plummeted his draft stock after his alleged involvement in an accident that killed a 78-year-old man in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.

Lacy was allegedly driving recklessly when a motorist who was deviating to avoid Lacy’s Dodge Charger crashed head-on into another vehicle.

The accident happened when Lacy was from Thibodaux, Louisiana.

Herman Hall of Thibodaux died after being transported to a hospital as he was involved in a head-on crash.

Lacy fled the scene of the accident without calling for help, said authorities with State Police Troop C.

The complaint brought charges against Lacy for negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle.

The US football wide receiver played in 12 games for LSU last season. He was second on the team in catches with 58 and yards receiving with 866.

Just days after the accident, he declared for the NFL draft and did not play in LSU’s victory over Baylor in the Texas Bowl on December 31.
