Do you remember a movie where a cyborg assassin comes back from the future to kill a woman named Sarah Connor who would give birth to a person who would later lead humankind’s rebellion against machines? That’s right, OJ Simpson was originally cast to play the role of The Terminator in 1984, the role which went to Arnold Schwarznegger.
Arnold, 77, told a podcast last year how he was first cast as the nemesis, Kyle Reese, a role he wanted to play.
Forty years on, many worldwide who may not even know the former Republican governor of the state of California by his name, still know him as The Terminator, a role that people remember him for distinctly.
During the interview, Arnold told the host that OJ was cast, but there was no contract in place, to play the role of the Terminator.
Arnie recalled that James Cameron, the director, was trying to persuade the bodybuilding world champion to play the role of the Terminator while Arnold said he wanted to play Reese.
However, James eventually talked him into playing the character as he gave the impression to Cameron how the Terminator should talk or move his head and body, being a robot from the future. Finally, Arnold relented.
Arnold said OJ was dismissed from the movie after the football star showed too much enthusiasm in playing the time-travelling cyborg assassin.
The 1984 film made more that $78 million at the box office which led to a number of sequels, namely, the second part, The Terminator: Judgement Day (1991).
OJ was pronounced not guilty in the murders of his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. The two were stabbed to death in her Los Angeles house.
