Tiffany Haddish is a Hollywood actress and a stand-up comedian who has been nominated by the Time Magazine as one of the Top 100 influential people in the world in 2018.
Born Tiffany Cornilla Hadish on December 3, 1979, to an Eritrean Jewish father and an African-American mother of a Jehovah witness family, she was born and raised in California’s Los Angeles.
At the age of 13, she and her four half-siblings were put into foster care and she started using comedy as an outlet. Prior to that, her mother had a terrible car making her schizophrenic and quick to anger. Living with an abusive mom Tiffany started humour at an early age to escape beatings.
Later, she found out from her stepfather that he had been behind the failed brakes so that he could collect on the life insurance of Tiffany, her four siblings and her mother.
However, the children were home that day and the mother suffered an accident which led to head trauma but was not fatal.
At the age of 17, Tiffany was raped by a police cadet.
After graduating from high school, Tiffany was mostly homeless, living in her car. She got a chance to attend New York University but did not attend due to tuition fees and her aversion to debt, so she went to Santa Monica College instead.
From there, she climbed to Saturday Night Live and now has her own Netflix special.
She has acted in Girls Trip, a movie that got her both critical praise and commercial success.
She won a Grammy for the best comedy album for Black Mitzvah in 2021.
