Russian professional tennis player Diana Shnaider began wearing headscarves as a child to prevent sunburn, preferring them over caps and visors.

As many are curious to know why she wears a headscarf, the 20-year-old Russian tennis Diana Shnaider reveals the secret behind her Andre Agassi-like headscarf. She never wears the headscarf as a fashion statement.

According to several reports, Shnaider’s parents worried that while playing under the sun, the fair-haired teen of their daughter would burn.

However, tennis players often use the headgear but she didn’t like the usual headgear.

Shnaider says when she tosses it; caps and visors prevent her from seeing the ball. Following the impact, she went for a scarf instead, the tennis player added.

Replying to a query about how to manage to get a headscarf, Shnaider said she is doing it all by herself, buying the material and sending it to a woman to make the right size headscarf for her head.

“ I have been wearing it [headscarf] since I was nine years old,” Shnaider once revealed.

It is really helpful to protect herself from the sun, she said.

In response to a question about how she faces any negative comments, Diana Shnaider said she felt very under pressure on facing criticisms over her headscarf.

The Russian tennis player, who has career-high rankings of world No. 18 in singles and No. 65 in doubles, achieved on August 19 2024 & July 22 2024, respectively.

Shnaider won women’s doubles silver with partner Mirra Andreeva at the Paris Olympics 2024.
