US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the recall of Aldi cheese in four States for possible metal contamination.

Aldi, the brand name of two German multinational family-owned discount supermarket chains, is operating over 12,000 stores in 18 countries.

Meanwhile, over 4,000 bags of Happy Farm’s Colby Jacks’ shredded cheese have been recalled across the four states for contamination. The states are Connecticut, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

On February 15, the manufacturer, Great Lakes Cheese Co. Inc, initiated the recall while the FDA issued a Class II recall notice on March 19.

This Class II recall means that the product may cause “temporary” or “reversible” health concerns

How to identify the recalled Aldi cheese?

Aldi’s shredded cheese is the only product impacted by this recall. The cheese is the store’s generic brand mixture of Colby & Monterey Jack shredded cheeses.

Shredded cheese was recalled after stainless steel fragments were discovered inside the bag.

To identify the recalled cheese, you should check the following information.

They are: Batch number: 8679653, Item number: 170374, UPC: 061463330840, and Lot number: Best By JUL 13 25 H or Best By JUL 14 25 H.

There has been a second recall from Great Lakes Cheese Company.

On January 16 this year, Aldi removed “Our Family American Cheese Slices” from market due to “flavour discrepancy”, although the cheese was made with 2% Milk.

You should check for the recalled UPC 0-70253-50023 and an expiration date of November 22, 2025 if you still have “Our Family American Cheese Slices” in your fridge.

You can return it to the original place of purchase for a refund or replacement if you have the recalled American cheese.
