Two-time semifinalist Aryna Sabalenka, a Belarusian professional tennis player, has withdrawn from the Wimbledon tournament due to a shoulder injury.

The Wimbledon favourite, the two-time Australian Open champion, was supposed to play Emina Bektas of the US in the first round on Day 1 at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament.

Sabalenka, 26, wrote on social media that she could not play in The Championships (Wimbledon) this year as her shoulder is not cooperating. She said she tried everything to get myself ready but failed.

The tennis player said she wanted to start practice with a limit to try her best but the team suggested that she could face worse for playing, although this tournament is very important.

However, Sabalenka in his post vowed to back stronger than ever next year.

According to BetMGM Sportsbook, Sabalenka was favoured to win the women’s championship at Wimbledon.

Sabalenka appeared as a semifinalist at the All England Club each of the last two times. Erika Andreeva, who lost in qualifying last week, replaced her in the draw on Monday.

Citing pain in her shoulder, Sabalenka stopped playing during the first set of her quarterfinal at the Berlin Ladies Open a week ago.

Calling it very frustrating, Sabalenka had a muscle injury.

Sabalenka briefly reached number one in the WTA rankings for the first time last season. She is currently number three.

Sabalenka’s game is built on the power that she won the championships in 2023 and this January.

Sabalenka did not get permission to play Wimbledon in 2022 as because of the invasion of Ukraine all players from Russia and Belarus were banned from the event.
