Stevie Nicks is an American singer-songwriter best known as the frontwoman for the iconic pop-rock band Fleetwood Mac.

Nicks is also pretty renowned for her solo efforts. Her ethereal stage presence, powerful and meaningful lyrics, and low, rich, vocals established her as a leading musician.

Born on May 26, 1948, in Phoenix, Arizona to Barbara and Jess Nicks, she has a younger brother.

As a toddler she could not pronounce her given name, Stephanie, which eventually led to the nickname “Stevie” that became her moniker and stage name.

Her family moved frequently during childhood due to her father’s work, and when she was a teenager, they moved to California.

Nicks went to Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton, along with future Fleetwood Mac guitarist and vocalist Lindsey Buckingham.

She, in an interview, recalled her singing an impromptu performance of “California Dreamin’” with Buckingham at a church gathering while they were still in high school.

Since its formation in 1967, Fleetwood Mac has released a couple of albums without getting much attention and experienced serious turnover.

When Nicks and Buckingham joined hands, the band’s members included Fleetwood on drums, John McVie on bass, and Christine McVie on keyboard and vocals.

In 1975, Fleetwood Mac put out an album named after the band. Nicks wrote the lyrics and sang some of the album’s most famous songs, which includes “Rhiannon.”

Her songwriting went on to receive extensive acclaim.

She wrote many of Fleetwood Mac’s most iconic tracks like “Dreams,” “Landslide,” and “Gypsy.”

Her romantic relationship with Buckingham fueled many of her compositions. The duo parted ways ahead of Fleetwood Mac’s seminal album Rumours (1977), and their bitter split inspired much of the record’s content.

Nicks has made her triumphant return to Saturday Night Live on October 12.

The iconic frontwoman performed on the long-running NBC sketch comedy show for the first time in 41 years during the episode hosted by Ariana Grande.

Dressed in her usual all-black, the 76-year-old singer-songwriter opened the show with a powerful performance of her new song “The Lighthouse,” which was inspired by the overturning of Roe v Wade.
